When I joined TAP, I didn't have much self-confidence in business. I didn’t have any experience with that, I never had a clue how things went in the business world, and it was focused on different things than my previous school. I knew no entrepreneurs from my surroundings, and everyone around me were set to the classic employee mental model. I was haunted by a voice that whispered to me that women couldn't do business like men because they were emotionally based and the pressure that came with doing business just couldn't handle it. And so, I was quite wrong. The book #Girlboss kicked me with a lot of motivation on how to run a business as a woman.
How did I get to the book?
I once watched a video of one Czech influencer, which also runs her own business, and she recommended this book. She spoke about it as a book which, although very motivating, does not contain any shallow speech and reads with one breath. That's why I bought it and started reading.
About a book
The author wanted to establish a clothing brand. She started selling clothes that she bought in second-hand and sold it on eBay. She started to specialize mainly on vintage clothes and very quickly the sale of clothes caught on and Sophie started to get more and more orders.
She did everything by herself. From photographing models to finding models, finding the clothes and communicating with customers. In her book, she emphasizes that what helped her a lot was that she treated customers like her friends, which is, by the way, something I try to practice in my own business. Gradually, she got higher and higher until she had to start looking for her employees.
In the book, Sophie advises how to start a business or how to get into a high career position. For example, she talks about how to write a CV or how to be great at a job interview.
Conclusion
I liked the book that although it was an autobiography associated with a motivational book, I couldn't take break from reading. The book became a kind of personal Bible for me and helped me change my mindset on business from the woman perspective. I understand that I will never do business as men - I don't have the nature to be tough on others and work XX hours per day. (I don't mean it in a bad way, I just mean that each of us is set up differently) I build a lot of business on empathy for others and a personal approach. What also worked very well for me was when I started a business with my boyfriend. I must say that we are like water and fire and thus we complement each other perfectly in all aspects of our business. I tend to do creative things, do marketing, and communicate with our customers, while my boyfriend takes care of supplementing materials, creating and managing the website, take care about our finances etc.
In conclusion, I would like to say that I recommend this book to every woman who sometimes even hesitated to be a successful #girlboss. This book will give you the courage to swing and start a business. And I'm infinitely grateful to come across this book.
