This book was choosed by me to be better in self management
To introduce this great book, I have to mention that it was written by plastic surgeon Maltz, who could see people behaviour and results
after plastic (aesthetic) surge.
Doctor Maltz could see, that some people felt more confident after surgery and
had better results in life, were more successful, but some of them
just didn't…..it was all about mind.
This is why Maltz decided to study how we can program our mind to have
better results in life (even without plastic surgery). He is trying to help people to program them (as machines) to achieve their goals.
Basic (but important) facts from book
-Self image
something so abstract as self-image can affect my life drastically, so what self image actually is? self image is made of thoughts you think about yourself depend on your previous experiences. Actually funny to me is fact, that you can choose the thoughts and your nervous system will trust you, so better choose wisely.
-How I see myself, my self image, influence my thoughts which
influence how I perceive feedback, or basically any social
interaction.
- Our mind is looking for social proof of our thoughts, so if you
think you are klutz…you will find proof, do you think you are capable? you will find a proof
-your behaviour always reflect what you think about yourself
-confidence=sucess
-subconscious mind is like a recording machine, which is always on and records every experience and how you perceive it, so better concentrate on how you perceive your reality
-subconscious mind is directly connected to goals achieving- positive self image-) subconscious help ho achieve goals, negative self image-)sabotage goals
so 1))self image controls/influence-2)subconscious mind which has effect on your-3)behaviour and actions
-the more authethic you are the more successful you feel
-your current habits and personal traits is your current self image
-talk to self better
-control my thoughts and imaginations, concentrate more on positive seeking/interpretation of my reality
-Imagination: as Tracy in his book recommend to visualise often, Maltz recommends to
use your mind wisely.
-active mind is happy mind: we were made to achieve goals and if our mind is absorbed in pursuing attractive goals, there is no space for negative thoughts
rules I follow and keep reminding myself from the book
-proactive instead of lazy
-long term satisfaction over instant
-interests that create value instead of meaningless activities and distraction
-keep growing, educating myself instead of stagnation
-expect the best, success instead of failure
-be relax, if challenge show up, negative people tend to perceive it as
a crisis, positive one as challenge, if u stay calm, you are able to respond challenges successfully
the key difference between people who has positive personality and
people who has negative (and prone to failure) is that people with
positive personality EXPRESS AUTHENTICALLY
how am I working on my authentic self expression ?
focus on my strengths, on doing activities that makes me happy
I don't put much stock in other people opinion (but I do openly and
gratefully accept constructive feedback from people who I admire)-
I invest time to think about myself, what I really want (my goals),
what is important to me (my values) to better understand myself and to
meet my needs
I am not afraid to express my feelings and needs at the moment they show up
mental practice
:analyse your mental picture of yourself and change it to positive one (if its negative)/positive thoughts have to outweigh the negative ones
-you should imagine yourself success and do it regulary (example with basketball players: those who practised only mentally (- they had to
imagine that they successfully made a shot) and those who trained
physically had almost same results at the end-> perfect practice is to do both
This book help me to focus on things that meter to me and theory in this book is align with theory in books Ive read recently, it is goals by Brian Tracy and Happiness Advantage by Shawn Achor.
After reading this book I concentrate more on my thoughts, I”m more critical about my thoughts and I control them by habit of visualisation I created in my life, I know how important are habits That I have in my life, so Im slowly adding more habits to my life that are meaningful to me, instead of letting myself do whatever I want (I
would choose some easy fun on social media) and absorbing any stupid
information. I really concentrate more about what I let in to my mind,
because GIGO….garbage in, garbage out :))
