Organizational Traps


Are we traped? And what does it mean, what is the description of beeing traped?


The situation of people beeing traped has few characteristics 


Why are traps so bad? Because they are:



Why do we trap ourselfs? 

It all starts with difficult situation when status quo or we are in threat, or when we feel like it, also can be in situations when we feel embarrassed or when we fell that our competence is being judge


Self justification

when comes to the traps we need to talk about how is it caused?

When the situation is not easy, we all are in some position which we are trying to keep in, our mental discomfort which we feel in case that someone is standing against us, against our thinking is so strong, that people can not calm until this discomfort is reduced, so that means we are lying ourself to feel better, calm mind….we did the best we could. And after comes denying personal responsibility on the situation.

If I could describe trap with one word I would go with COMFORT.


How to reduce traps? 


(Argyris summed up those values based on observing peoples in interaction with others and also based on left-hand-right-hand cases)

Model 1: defensive reasoning:



  1. be in unilateral control
  2. Win, not lose
  3. Supress negative feelings
  4. Behave rationaly 


Long story short- when we feel danger, potential threat or embrasse we became fighters, we are making calculated moves which keep us in comfort.


Model 2: productive reasoning

1] seek valid information 

2] create informed choice

3]monitor vigilantly to detect and correct error 


Traps that are caused by defensive reasoning are very dangerous especially when people are not aware of their existence. People feel hopeless and can’t see how they contribute to this inefectivity, they don’t learn and dont move the direction where they want to be.

People become skilled to not achieving what they want because they becomes skilled with behaviour that trap them, with model 1. This behaviour is contagious and grow in groups, people should be aware of that and take responsibility for being the right example in a group who will represent what behaviour that leads to what they want and  fight with the one which distract them from getting to
