The Success Principles
by Jack Canfield
I chose this book because I wanted to see what concepts Jack Canfield uncovers for the road to success. I was also a bit skeptical because “recipe to success” looks different for everyone. What I am expecting though is uncovering some new principles that can help me move forward in my life.
Some of the core principles:
Our control
What we have control over are only three things. It is our thoughts, the images we visualize and the actions we take.
Law of Attraction
What we think about, what we feel intensely and what we believe is what we bring to ourselves. That could be the basic description of the law of attraction.
The mastery
Even if we lose our material things, what we are left with is our knowledge, our skills, our mastery. That is who we became while achieving our goals.
Fake it till you make it
One of the tools that can help us become successful is acting as if we are already where we are aiming to be.
Actions matter
What we are paid for are our actions, not our knowledge.
The book explores 6 parts of success. I am going to explore some of the concepts from each of these parts.
Part 1: The Fundamentals of Success
To become successful we have to take 100% responsibility for our life. That means knowing that we are responsible for our thoughts, feelings, failures and successes. Many people blame external events and that way avoid their responsibility to act on whatever issues they might be facing. We can't often influence the circumstances we are in but we can influence how we react to them and that is where our responsibility for our own life lies. I think we should always thrive to do the best with what we have.
Another core principle from this part is to be clear on what we want. This means that we should have a clear vision of what we want to achieve in our life. Once we have a clear vision, we can take action to achieve our goals. Having clear vision is a concept I come across in almost all books about success and personal development and it has its right place for sure. I have spoken more on vision in my essay on Coaching for Breakthrough Success.
Part 2: Transform Yourself for Success
The second part of the book focuses on transforming ourselves for success. The core principle here is to believe in ourselves. Confidence is crucial for our life, yet I believe it is a daily practice for us to be self-confident and believe in ourselves because doubts always come from time to time. I believe the real self-confidence is self awareness and the ability to be mindful and centered in ourselves.
Developing a success mindset is another principle in this part. This means that we must have a positive attitude and believe that we can achieve anything we set our mind to. When we have a success mindset, we are more likely to take action and overcome obstacles. I think self-confidence comes together with a success mindset.
Part 3: Build Your Success Team
The third part of the book focuses on building our success team. That means surrounding ourselves with positive people. We should surround ourselves with people who are positive, supportive, and encouraging. When we do so, we are more likely to stay motivated and achieve our goals.
Asking for help is a big thing in my opinion not spoken of enough. We should not be afraid to ask for help when we need it. When we ask for help, we are more likely to receive the support and guidance we need to achieve success.I believe that everyone needs help from time to time.
Part 4: Create Successful Relationships
Practicing active listening is crucial for creating a successful relationship. That means fully focusing on what the other person is saying without interrupting or thinking about what to say next. By doing that, we can truly understand the other person's perspective and respond in a way that shows we value their thoughts and feelings.
Expressing gratitude and appreciation towards others is such a strong thing for us and for people around us. By showing gratitude for others, we can strengthen our relationships and build trust that is key in any relationship.
Part 5: Success and Money
Financial success means financial freedom. I believe it is an important component of becoming successful. We can get there by setting financial goals. By setting specific goals for how much money we want to make and by when, we can create a roadmap to achieve them.
Investing in our own personal development is important for our success. This means continuously learning new skills and expanding our knowledge and expertise. That in return increases our value and can play together with achieving financial success.
Part 6: Success in the Digital Age
In today's world it is important to stay up to date with technologies, use them for our benefit and embrace the fast paced changes in the tech world. Online exposure is important nowadays.
This book gives a very detailed know-how on the road to success. Ultimately, it is not just a book about achieving success or fame. It is about living a life of purpose and fulfillment. By focusing on our core values, setting clear goals, and taking action every day, we can create a life that is truly meaningful for us, whatever that looks like. I also believe that a successful life is not just about us being satisfied. As Jack Canfield writes, "Success is not just about what you accomplish in your life; it's about what you inspire others to do." I think that is the most meaningful thing I am taking from this book. My measure for success is not just about me, the more successful I am the more positive impact I have on people around me. I also believe that we are becoming successful as soon as we start taking any action on the way to success.
