My first attempt to write this essay was about half of a year ago, when I tried to translate the essay into Czech, although I read the book in English.
then I did not succeed, because the translated essay was incomprehensible due to the number of terms that are very difficult to translate correctly.
Now I have decided to write an essay in the original English language. I hope you will understand what is written here. Because this book was difficult for me. But I will tell you my opinion about the book at the end.
The author of the book is very famous. That's the only reason I started reading this book, because Maslow is a guru. His "Maslow's hierarchy of needs" is known all over the world. That's why I chose this book, in order to understand the topic of team and project management more deeply.
Here is such a book. I tried to write an essay on it in simple words, but, to be honest, some things in this book were very confusing. It was difficult for me to read this book, I sometimes reread 1 page several times. And I don't even know which category this book falls under more, under psychology or under management. Because by its structure and title, the book is about management, and in fact, the psychological aspects are analyzed.
Although my opinion is that everything in the world is based on psychology. Therefore, I will leave this book in the category "management".
What did this book give me? A very good question.
Many ideas, probably, were not understood by me as I would like, but nevertheless there are a lot of clever thoughts that I have not seen in other books. An interesting fact is that enlightened management can only work with psychologically healthy people in a psychologically healthy society. But we all understand that this is a utopia, and that this will never happen. There will always be a weak link, there will always be a person who is obsessed with something. BUT! It is in our hands to improve processes and optimize them, in order to move towards the ideal.
And yet, I completely forgot about the theories.
Maslow talks about 2 different theories, which you can read about yourself in the book. But, in short:
Theory Y is based on unconvincing data; Theory X is based on established practice, but no evidence.
My final conclusion:
The book is very complex, it is not the kind of literature that you will read in a couple of evenings. And even if you read it, you will not understand anything. Here you need to read the words, understand the essence, if necessary - read again and again to understand, and only then go to the next chapter.
To be honest, for me this book is from the category "I will re-read it in the future". Because now I understand it, but not 100%.
