Who Moved My Chesse?
Well, I decided to write this essay in english language. The main reason why is probably because this book was easy to read in fact, so I´d like to challenge myself a little bit and learn more. And the second thing is that I have in my half year learning contract I´d like to improve my foreign laguages skills.
I am learning, so if you find some grammar mistakes in my essay, please let me know.
I chosed this book because of the reccomendation by the members of my team. I thought this book is going to be a bible sized motivational stuff but the opposite was true. Now I get why so many people read it. It is a simple story of four characters that live in a maze and are constantly looking for cheese. I finished it in an hour before I went to sleep after my first 24 hours long birthgiving for the Ehrmann company.
Two of the four characters are Leňo and Beňo, who are little people about the size of mice. (I read the book in czech so I am not going to translete these names in english.) They rely on their emotions, and experience in life to make achievements, but also like humans they can become very comfortable and be oblivious to what is happening around them.
The other two characters Čmuchalka and Cupitalka, are mice. They rely more
on instinct and their senses to conduct everyday life. Although they are simple minded and not very smart, (but who knows what is right) they do not get hung up emotionally when things work against them. They have the power of adaptation, which allows them to continually maintain a productive life no matter how things change around them.
Maybe this is the most important messege. How could it be if people use the power
of adaptation and accept the changes in their life. Maybe we should not be worried about what might happen.
Their cheese room symbolize their comfort zone and happiness. Their became happy about what they have and they even start bragget to their friends.
However things got complicated when cheese disappeared unknown where. Čmuchalka a Cupitalka were ready for this situation and their were able to accept the change right away and moved on, they have found better place quite soon.
Leňo was broken, he couldn´t believe his eyes and he still thought somebody is going to return the cheese. They cannot accept the fact that cheese is gone, so they end up wasting many days staring at the empty station.
After that Beňo decided to take destiny into his own hands. He understood that waiting for somebody to chose his life is just a waste of his time. He need to find another spot by himself and step out of the negative air around him.
After Beňo remain surrounded by fear of the unknown. The fundamental rule in the maze that is life is to acknowledge and take action towards change that comes one’s way. However, actions without a strategy might lead to wasting a lot of time in the maze for no reason.
He often thought of Leňo on his way. He hoped he would set out and tried several times to persuade him to go on a trip and taste the new cheese. But he could not judge him for his fear, he himself lost many days before going to insight. If he would judge him he would probably still be inside the glass house.
Beňo has written many qoutes on the wall during his journey through the maze and
I´d love to share them with you.
At TS, we shared knowledge about this division of personality traits. I think it fits perfectly with the idea of this book, and I immediately remembered it as I read it.
Just like Leňo, it might seem hard to leave what one is used to; nevertheless, experience dictates that without leaving the seashore, one will never discover new oceans. Ignoring the facts does not change them; therefore, it is good for people to accept change because change is unavoidable.
A lot of people around me knew that Tiimi wasn't my dream school at first. When I came here to study, I wasn't sure if I belonged here and I was afraid to taste the new cheese. But I decided to give it a chance and find my room full of delicious cheese. And I found her. It's something else for me, but now I know that the loss of old cheese has opened up a lot of opportunities for me and I feel like growing.
Also, I should have seen the need for changes that would improve my relationships but I was satisfied with what I had and when it went wrong i did not even consider making attempts to affect some situations and my behavior.
However, this does not mean
that we should betray everything we loved, but now for some reason it is no
longer working. Sometimes, however, it is important not to stop thinking that
new cheese can be found with the same person.
